I have heard it said, "I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. What I can do, I ought to do. What I ought to do, by the grace of God, I will do."

One godly man or woman can make a dramatic difference, even in the darkest of circumstances. Jesus put it this way:

"You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it useful again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. You are the light of the world-like a city on a mountain, glowing in the night for all to see. Don't hide your light under a basket! Instead, put it on a stand and let it shine for all. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father." (Matthew 5:13 NLT)

Our Lord is telling us that we, like salt, should make a difference in the situations we are in. Just as a little salt can either improve or worsen the flavor of something, a little influence can go a long way.

You might be the only Christian in your family . . . or the only Christian in your workplace . . . or the only Christian in your classroom . . . or the only Christian in your neighborhood. In fact, you may be trying to get out of an uncomfortable situation in which you find yourself.

But you may have been put there by the Lord to be an influence and, in a godly way, to move people in the right direction. God can do a lot with a little.

We have heard of people like Dr. Bill Bright, the founder of Campus Crusade for Christ International; and D. L. Moody, the great evangelist of his time; and of course, Billy Graham. But have you ever heard of Edward Kimball or Henrietta Mears?

Without Edward Kimball, there never would have been a D. L. Moody. Kimball was a shoe salesman. He worked at a shoe store in Chicago and felt led by the Lord to share the gospel with young Dwight, a fellow salesman.

Dwight responded to the message, gave his heart to Jesus Christ, and ultimately went on to be the greatest evangelist of his generation. It was because of Edward Kimball's faithfulness to share the gospel that the Lord reached D. L. Moody, who in turn reached millions.

What about Henrietta Mears? In 1928, she was called to teach a Sunday school class at the First Presbyterian Church in Hollywood. Under her direction, the class grew from 400 to 4,000. She later went on to found Gospel Light Publishing and Forest Home Christian Conference Center in Southern California. Of the people she influenced, 400 went into full-time Christian service. Among them were Bill Bright and Billy Graham.

It is the power of one. Our lives can make a difference. In Ezekiel 22:30 God says, "I looked for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land. I searched for someone to stand in the gap in the wall so I wouldn't have to destroy the land, but I found no one" (NLT).

God is looking for that one who can make his or her mark.

You may be the only Christian whom some people will ever know. The fact is that God can do a lot with a little.

If you don't believe me, just ask that boy who was willing to share his lunch one day and saw Jesus feed 5,000 people, plus women and children, with his little meal. Or spend some time in the Book of Exodus, where you'll find the story of one man who lived such a godly life that, for all practical purposes, he kept two-and-a-half million people from turning to full-tilt idolatry. His name was Moses.

God is just looking for one-someone like you, someone like me. Will you be that one person?

We all would love to be a Billy Graham, D. L. Moody, or Bill Bright. Maybe you will be. But would you be willing to at least be an Edward Kimball or a Henrietta Mears?

Would you be willing to do what you can, where you are, with the influence that God has given you? Never underestimate the power of one.

YOUR HEALING SHALL SPRING FORTH SPEEDILY

“Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; When you see the naked, that you cover him, And not hide yourself from your own flesh? Then your light shall break forth like the morning, your healing shall spring forth speedily, and your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.” – Isaiah 58:7, 8.

Most of the times in our lives we tend to look at our own blessing and we forget to help poor people. I have seen so many rich people struggling hard with sickness and problems all through their life. Bible clearly says in the above verse that if you help the poor and the needy people, your healing will spring forth speedily and the Lord will protect you. 

My dear young friends, as you receive God’s blessing give a portion of it to God and also to the needy people. Then surely God will bless you abundantly and He will protect your wealth, health and your family. Let me share with you a real life story.

Rockefeller was one of the richest men in the world. He was the president of the Standard Oil Company. Once his ships were carrying oil to some other country. Suddenly he received news that all his ships were caught up in a cyclonic storm in the mid sea. Only then he realized that he did not insure his ships. Since it was a Saturday, the Insurance Company was closed. But he made the concerned person to open the Insurance Company and insured his ships for 150 Dollars. By the time he returned home, he received the news that all his ships landed safely. He lamented, “I lost 15 Dollars. Had I received this news a couple of hours back, I would not have lost his money”.

          Although he was a millionaire, he was running after money. Therefore he became very sick at the age of 45 and his condition became critical. It was then one of his doctor friends told him, “Sir, how long you are going to save money? You are living only for yourself. Why not you live happily?” Rockefeller asked him, “How can I do that?” Then the doctor said, “Sir, surrender your life to God and share your wealth with the poor.Then God will transform your life”. Rockefeller began to do that. Today “the Rockefeller Foundation” is one of the greatest charitable organizations. Medical researches are taking place through that foundation.They are spending millions of dollars to find a remedy for terrible diseases. When Rockefeller started taking care of the poor, the Lord transformed his life and protected him. He lived a healthy life and died at the age of 80. After his death, his soul might have reached heaven.

      My dear young friends, when you too feed the poor, the Lord will go before you and protect you.He shall also exalt you in society. Give and it shall be given unto you. God bless you.

LIKED THIS ONE A LOT

SIMPLY TRUST IN GOD - AN INSPIRATIONAL STORY (AUTHOR UNKNOWN)

They tell the story of a mountain climber, who desperate to conquer the Aconcagua initiated his climb after years of preparation. But he wanted the glory to himself; therefore, he went up alone. He started climbing and it was becoming later, and later. He did not prepare for camping but decided to keep on going. Soon it got dark...

Night fell with heaviness at a very high altitude. Visibility was zero. Everything was black. There was no moon, and the stars were covered by clouds. As he was climbing a ridge at about 100 meters from the top, he slipped and fell. Falling rapidly he could only see blotches of darkness that passed. He felt a terrible sensation of being sucked in by gravity.

He kept falling....and in those anguishing moment good and bad memories passed through his mind. He thought certainly he would die. But then he felt a jolt that almost tore him in half. Yes!! Like any good mountain climber he had staked himself with a long rope tied to his waist.

In those moments of stillness, suspended in the air he had no other choice but to shout, "HELP ME GOD", "HELP ME!"All of a sudden he heard a deep voice from heaven..."What do you want me to do?"

"SAVE ME"

"Do you REALLY think that I can save you?""OF COURSE, MY GOD"

"Then cut the rope that is holding you up."

There was another moment of silence and stillness. The man just held tighter to the rope.

The rescue team says that the next day they found, a frozen mountain climber hanging strongly to a rope... two feet off the Ground.

How about you? How trusting are you in that rope? Why don't you let it go? I tell you, God has great and marvelous thing for you. CUT THE ROPE AND SIMPLY TRUST IN HIM...

JESUS NEVER LOOKED DOWN ON OTHERS - A DEVOTIONAL BY JON WALKER

Think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. (1 Corinthians 1:26 NIV)

Jesus never looked down on others, and that gave him the ability to see them as people. They weren’t users, consumers, or customers. They were people in need of a relationship with him, not a dos-and-don’ts religion.

Once we understand our identity in Christ, we will begin to see people in a similar way. We will see that they are eternal beings, created in the image of God. We will no longer use their circumstances or sins to define who they are; we will see who they are through the eyes of Jesus.

This perspective, so different from our natural tendencies, brought out the best in the people Jesus met. He saw their true value, and, as a result, they came to know their true value.

Consider:

• Jesus saw a woman who would sin no more when others saw a woman caught in adultery.
• Jesus saw a man who was able to see when others saw a blind man.
• Jesus saw a man picking up his mat to walk when others saw a cripple.
• Jesus saw a huge yet hurting heart when others saw a wee little man named Zacchaeus.
• Jesus saw an articulate disciple when others saw a tax collector named Matthew.
• Jesus saw a woman of willing sacrifice when others saw wasted perfume.
• Jesus saw a stable rock for building the Church when others saw an impulsive, impetuous disciple named Peter.
• Jesus saw men who did not know what they were doing when others saw evil men pounding nails into a cross.

Our objective is to stop seeing others from our limited perspective and to start seeing them in the way God sees them, encouraging the best of others, bringing them to the one who wants more than all the world what is best for them — Christ the Lord (Luke 2:8-10).

Talk About It

Try to spend one day seeing and hearing through the eyes and ears of Christ. How does it change the way you see others? How does it change the way you treat others?
